Established in 2005, EDMS Australia is an Australian-owned business specialising in professional engineering, fabrication, construction and industrial lagging and cladding. With proven success, we deliver projects to the Defence, Sugar, Renewable Energy, Mining, Resource and Industrial sectors.

Our facilities are in Cairns and Townsville, and are equipped with sophisticated technologies, including 3D Terrestrial scanning, additive manufacturing, laser cutting and laser welding, extending our capabilities Australia wide and internationally.

EDMS Australia has four divisions, Engineering, Fabrication, Construction and Industrial Lagging & Cladding.

Depending on your needs, these divisions have the capacity and capability to operate independently or as an integrated team to deliver industrial projects of any scale.

EDMS Australia History Timeline

2005
Founding directors, Chris Moes and Michael Hagen register EDMS Australia as an Australian privately owned and incorporated engineering and construction business to provide design, project management, and co-ordination services to BHP Billiton for the Queensland Nickle Refinery (QNI) Yabulu Expansion Project. This project included the design and management to convert QNI’s boiler 3 from heavy fuel oil and diesel fuel oil firing to using coal seam methane gas. The project facilitated EDMS to build and grow a unique set of engineering and project people, some of whom are still working at EDMS Australia today.

2006
Managing Director, Michael Hagen, commences mechanical engineering and detail drafting services from the family home’s spare room, brining on clients from the Sugar Mill and industrial sectors, including Mossman Mill, small fabrication facilities, Ergon Energy sustainment bases, Skyrail, and local shipyards.

2007
EDMS Australia opens new Engineering Division at 7 Cava Close Bungalow, Cairns.

2008
EDMS Australia successfully wins first major Sugar Mill contract to design, manufacture and install a 52m high stainless steel chimney stack and ancillaries at Invicta Sugar Mill, Giru.

2009
EDMS Australia commences fabrication and construction operations at 83 Crocodile Crescent, Townsville, North Queensland.

2010
EDMS Australia is awarded the contract to engineer and supervise the construction of Norship Marine’s 400 tonne capacity travelling ship lifter and assisted Norship Marine to break into the Defence and Australian Border Force maritime sustainment services.

2012
EDMS Australia is awarded the first major industrial boiler rehabilitation project for Plane Creek Sugar Mill and received the Engineers Australia excellence award for project management and execution of a major project. This project positioned EDMS Australia as a leader in the repair and rehabilitation of large industrial bagasse fired water tube boilers in the Sugar Milling industry. Boiler repair and maintenance continue to be a major part of EDMS Australia’s services today.

2013
EDMS Australia grows its Fabrication and Construction Division by expanding into the adjoining property, 79 Crocodile Crescent, Townsville North Queensland allowing the company to offer greater fabrication capability to better support its growing boiler, site maintenance and installation projects.

2015
EDMS Australia undertakes a full boiler rebuild at Mackay Sugar’s Marian Mill.

2017
EDMS Australia is awarded its first renewable energy project, the mechanical installation of the Clare 125MW Solar Farm for Downer EDI.

The project included the installation of 400,000 solar panels, and well positioned EDMS to win the installation of the Adani Renewables 65MW Solar Farm near Moranbah in central Queensland.

EDMS eventually won and delivered the Adani project, and we continue our services in the renewable energy space today.

2024
EDMS Australia designs and builds a new 3,300m2 fabrication and construction facility at 21 Innovation Avenue, Townsville, and wins a major contract to demolish and replace two existing aging concrete chimney stacks by designing, fabricating and installing a new single 5m diameter by 74m high steel stack.

2025
EDMS Australia and John Thompson Industrial Watertube Division, part of the ACTOM Group in South Africa, has announced a new partnership to reintroduce JTSA world-class industrial water tube boiler solutions to the Australian market.

The collaboration restores access to specialist boiler support for the sugar industry and opens new opportunities in the energy and industrial sectors.

By aligning with John Thompson, EDMS is now equipped to deliver a complete offering, to the Australian market for industrial water tube boilers and their associated equipment, from specialist technical support and design and fabrication to site installation and turnkey project execution.
