Patrol Boat Lift Cradles

BSE Cairns Slipways has a new 1120 tonne capacity Marine Boat Hoist (MBH)..currently the largest in the world!

The new MBH provides BSE with added capabilty to quickly lift and dock a range of marine vessels including Defence ships and Border Force Patrol Boats.

Recently EDMS Australia designed cradles specificaly to support a Cape Class Patrol Boat (CCPB) and to prevent the MBH lift slings from damaging delicate bilge keels and stabiliser fins during the lift operation.

EDMS developed a detailed 3D model of the cradle design, which was based on Austal Ship's recommendations, and verified our design using finite element modelling.

A load test was conducted; however only a physical CCPB lift operation would validate the cradle shape to accurately conform to the ship's hull...as seen in the below photo. This one gets the thumbs up!
